For my last small change this month I’m wanting to add a yoga class into my workout schedule once a week. It’s great cross training for people who strength train regularly (like me) but I hardly ever do it. I’m looking forward to sunnier weather so I can take one of the outdoor classes at Klyde Warren Park. Click the link to take a look at their event calendar-they offer outdoor workout classes regularly for free!
Salt. I love it. Give me more. But it’s January and I’m making one of my small change resolutions to eat less salt. So give me less. Sigh. It’s in everything! Processed foods, canned foods, cheese, frozen foods, dressings, diet drinks and other diet foods all have more salt than we need daily. Here’s a handy little article from the Mayo Clinic that can tell you how much salt you need, where it comes from and why you need it but not too much. It suggests I have no more than 2,300 mg a day. That is a SINGLE TEASPOON of table salt. Yikes! I’m going to take this small change even smaller and go step by step to get myself to a comfortable level of added salt-I’m going to try and avoid processed foods and drinks as much as possible while slowly trying to wean myself off of adding table salt to my normal foods. How hard would be reducing your salt intake be for you?
The second small change I’m making this month (I am now routinely drinking more water everyday!) is limiting my couch and t.v. time. I get home pretty late from work and the first thing I do is sit down and eat dinner while watching t.v. Every single time I do this I have a really hard time getting up and moving around before bedtime and this ends up being about an hour/hour and a half of just sitting on my rear. So this week I am not allowing myself to sit and browse my DVR post-dinner. If that means I get up and do computer work standing up or play with my dog to distract myself from the comfort of my couch, I’m committing to this change this week however I can. How much time do you spend sitting down watching t.v. every day?
Happy New Year! This year instead of multiple large resolutions I want to tackle a few small things that I keep promising to be better at, but never really achieve. I’m going to pick one small change every week of January to work on and this week I am going to DRINK MORE WATER! Between coffee, pre-workout supplements and post-workout supplements I don’t drink nearly as much water as I need to so I’m going to slowly up my water intake by an extra glass every couple of days. Join me in my goal this week and stay tuned to this blog for a new small goal every week of this month!
